About Didier Pousset

Didier Pousset is an archaeodendrometrist specialising in the scientific study of historic timber. He assists heritage institutions and professionals seeking to date, characterise or better understand a wooden object or structure.

A combined approach

His work brings together four complementary readings: xylology to identify wood species, dendromorphology to examine form and timber conversion, tracology to characterise tool marks, and dendrochronology to investigate chronology.

The protocol is defined according to the object, its state of conservation and the questions being asked. This approach documents materials, technical gestures, transformations and time while making the limits of the findings explicit.
